PharmaChemical Ireland is the leading representative body for the pharmaceutical and chemical manufacturing sectors in Ireland. Our member company's research, develop and manufacture pharmaceutical products, ingredients and general chemical material. PharmaChemical Ireland liaise regularly with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the Health and Safety Authority (HSA), the Industrial Development Agency (IDA), FÁS (the National Training Authority), the Irish Medicines Board (IMB), Science Foundation Ireland (SFI), Enterprise Ireland (EI) and Forfás. The association is committed to providing a receptive environment for a strong and progressive industry in Ireland. With the support of industry, Ireland will position itself as a recognised centre of excellence for innovation and development in pharmaceutical, biopharmaceutical and chemical supply, thereby becoming the location of choice for the launch of new products. PharmaChemical Ireland will lead the sector towards achieving its vision by bringing together all relevant stakeholders in the State, namely industry, government, research community and the public at large to effectively communicate the unique attractiveness of this country as a leading location for the supply and development of such products. Industry profile Ireland’s pharmaceutical industry currently generates over 50 percent of the country's exports which contributes to making Ireland the largest net exporter of medicines in the world. Sector in the Irish Economy 8 of the top 10 companies have operations in Ireland. Companies indicated a planned spend of about €350 million during 2009 on various capital projects Ten of the top selling drugs are manufactured in Irish sites Exports The sector exported products to the value of €44.17 billion in 2009, representing 51.2% of the national total The sector contributes more than €1 billion in corporation tax annually Employment The Irish PharmaChemical industry employs 24,500 people Upwards of a further 24,500 jobs are based on the provision of services to the sector. Over half of the employees are third level graduates. The Irish PharmaChemical industry remain a strong contributor to Ireland’s economy and continues to grow steadily.
